Freedom of Movement (Rio 18 Remix) is a reworking of the solo Carwyn Ellis song found on his latest album, ‘Across The Water’. Where the original (recorded with Edwyn Collins at his Clashnarrow Studio in northern Scotland) is a sparse affair featuring just Carwyn’s voice and piano, this remix features the richly abundant multi-instrumental production skills of Shawn Lee in London, along with the phenomenal Brazilian percussion of Andre Siqueira in Rio de Janeiro and the glorious voices of Elan and Marged Rhys in Caernarfon. Like all Rio 18 recordings, it’s an international affair which transcends borders.
In the words of Carwyn Ellis, ‘As the title says, the song is about Freedom Of Movement, the freedom to live and work without fear not just within Europe but for all people, everywhere.
I don’t think it’s such a crazy idea, and maybe if other people can dance and sing along to it, they’ll warm to it too.
That’s if they don’t already agree, of course. ‘
As with the album, 50% of the proceeds of this track will go to the Oasis Centre For Asylum Seekers And Refugees in Cardiff, Wales.
